Content Summary

[5:56] Introduction – Emily Fletcher, founder of Ziva Meditation

[8:45] Mindfulness versus meditation

“What’s interesting for most people to know is mindfulness was originally designed from Monks, whereas meditation, and certainly what I teach at Ziva, is designed for people with busy minds and busy lives.”

{11:55] Meditation for high performers & Insomnia

“If you don’t have a daily meditation practice, then your body has to use sleep as a time for stress release and that’s what insomnia is.”

[24:41] Why we demonize being calm

“One, I do think people are afraid of feeling their feelings. I think we’re all just trying to prove to everyone else that we’re busier than they are so that they will adapt their schedule to ours.”

{29:00} Better out than in

“You can either cry this stuff out and put it in your tissues or it’s gonna show up in your tissues, like in your physical tissues.”

[31:35] Why does mindfulness feel like work

“The mind thinks involuntarily just like the heart beats involuntarily. So trying to give your brain a command to stop thinking is as impactful as trying to give you heart a command to stop beating. It does not work and yet this is the criteria by which most people are judging themselves”

[33:30] Investing your time

“Meditation is a skill like any other. So really the patience you have to have is am I willing to learn this skill? Am I willing to read the book? Am I willing to take the 15-day online course for 15 minutes a day? Am I willing to do that up front investment? Once you learn the skill and if you have a tool that’s designed for you, then you shouldn’t have to be all that patient, like it’s pretty fast.”

[48:39] Carving out space for joy

[50:20] Manifesting a life you love

“If you’re in survival mode, well how do you get into feeling stable? And if you’re stable how do you get into thriving? And once you’re thriving, how do you get into making a big impact? And once you’re making a big impact, how do you make a big impact on generations to come?”
